Summary:
Economic and social challenges with which developed societies are faced today and will be faced in the future are of different natures and scale. The incoming world will certainly be more complex and differentiated from the one we know and experience. Then a great question arises: who and how can address these challenges? We claim that an important part of the answer to this question will be granted by a new generation of entrepreneurs and by very aggressive innovation, which both need to be sustained by information and communication technology (ICT). Here, innovation is understood not only in terms of technology or business, but also as social innovation. Entrepreneurs of a new type will feature innovativeness, internet savviness, intensive knowledge-orientation, global reach, self-reliance, risk taking, and awareness of environmental issues, to mention just a few features only. This new generation of entrepreneurs is likely to become the engine of the new society, a follower of today’s middle class. The paper identifies educational facilities that could support innovativeness and new type of entrepreneurs. The educational facilities will be based, among others, on cloud computing, e-learning, collaborative learning, virtual reality, wikis, blogs, simulation models, multimedia, mind maps, progress/performance evaluation tools. These facilities can also support innovation.
