Summary:
One of the most efficient strategies to prepare societies and communities to address future challenges is to provide people with sound education and self-education systems. General education, vocational training and various forms of life-long learning can arm us against unforeseen predicaments, crisis, turning points, and downturns. This is particularly true for the society that will be focused on the production, processing, dissemination, exchange and trade of symbolic goods (e.g. intellectual property rights, entertainment). Such a society is already in statu nascendi. We call it netist society for its defining factor is the network that is the major factor of growth and development. The feature of the netist society is the necessity of almost permanent learning for maintaining and boosting the society. Given the immense number of users and a limited number of teachers, this paper claims that e-learning, whatever its particular form and technical intricacies, will become the overwhelming facility for acquiring skills and knowledge.
